WLA Orders New Set of Cardan Shafts!

Following a recent Management Committee meeting, unanimous approval was given to purchase a new set of cardan shafts. The purchase will allow a set of cardan shafts earmarked for D1013 to be used on "A" end bogie of D1062, which is shortly to be lifted at Kidderminster TMD to replace an equalising beam, whilst the new shafts will be placed into stock, once manufactured, ready for D1013 in approx. 4 months time. In effect, the purchase will allow both D1013 and D1062 to have new sets of cardan shafts fitted to all four bogies, whilst allowing a "half decent" ex BR set to be placed into store as spares.

The purchase has been made with Waltersheid (formerly GKN) at a cost of just over £28k (excluding VAT) and will help to extend the operating life of both locomotives. In addition, the purchase was made whilst the parts can be still obtained!
