D1062 due to return back to traffic!

21st May 2026

Following a very extensive Winter Maintenance programme, the WLA's hard-pressed Working Members have made an exceptional effort to ensure that D1062 can return back to traffic for the 2026 Operating Season!

The 63 year old locomotive is all but ready to return to traffic on Sunday, 24th May 2026. With just some final checks for "B" end engine to be started, a light engine test run to Bewdley and back and final underframe inspection due to take place on Saturday, all being well, the sound of Courier will be heard back up and down the Valley!

Although it was a great disappointment that D1062 could not participate in the SVR's Spring Diesel Festival, it was not for the want of trying. Although a few events conspired against the WLA, the amount of work should not be underestimated which included a bogie lift for "A" end, new cardan shafts, equalising beam repairs, air receivers re-certified, engine checks, brake checks, bogie height checks - the list is almost endless! And of course, whilst the SVR facilities are magnificent, they have to be shared with other Groups, requiring a great deal of co-ordination.

The WLA would like to thank the Working Members who really have gone over and beyond what would normally be expected of them in producing a locomotive which is fit to run, greatly admired, and enjoyed by many enthusiasts.

Thank you!
